Dhaka: The newly reconstituted board of Biman Bangladesh Airlines held its first full-day meeting at Balaka, the airline’s headquarters, to discuss key operational and strategic issues. This meeting marked the formal beginning of the activities of the new 13-member board, which was formed through a government notification issued on April 25 by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the reconstituted board is led by Chairman Rumi A. Hossain, who is the Sponsor Director of Bank Asia PLC and chairman of its executive committee. During the meeting, the board reviewed various aspects of the airline’s operations, including financial management, service quality, fleet expansion plans, enhancement of safety standards, and the future strategic roadmap.
Several important policy decisions were also made to bolster the national flag carrier’s competitiveness and efficiency. An official release highlighted that these decisions are aimed at strengthening Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ position in the aviation sector.
The government has expressed hope that the new board, which includes professionals from public administration, defense, banking, business, law, and academia, will contribute to transforming Biman into a modern, self-reliant, and internationally competitive airline.
