Meherpur: Bicycles and wheelchairs were distributed to students and disabled individuals in Sadar upazila here today. These were distributed at the Upazila Parishad premises this afternoon under the ADB and Upazila Development Fund (UDF) project for the 2024-25 financial year.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Abdul Salam attended the event as the chief guest, while Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khairul Islam presided over the ceremony. A total of 21 students received bicycles, and 11 sick and disabled individuals were provided with wheelchairs.
In his address, Dr. Salam emphasized the government's commitment to improving the quality of life for rural populations and promoting education. Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Khairul Islam stated that the bicycle distribution was aimed at encouraging students to stay in school and avoid early marriage. He mentioned that the bicycles would help students attend school regularly, promote a healthy lifestyle, and improve educational outcomes.
He also highlighted that the distribution of wheelchairs to disabled individuals would alleviate mobility challenges and enable greater independence for them.
