Dhaka: Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan today inaugurated the 18-kilometre Dhaka Bypass Expressway from Bhogra in Gazipur to Purbachal section. The expressway has been constructed under the project of upgrading the Joydevpur-Debgram-Bhulta-Madanpur (Dhaka bypass) road into four lanes.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser highlighted that the completion of this project will significantly facilitate the movement of trucks, trailers, and other goods-carrying vehicles from Chittagong Port to Mymensingh, Rangpur, and Rajshahi divisions. This development aims to reduce travel time by allowing these vehicles to bypass Dhaka city.
He further mentioned that the opening of the bypass expressway is expected to decrease the risk of traffic congestion and accidents within the capital. Fouzul Kabir Khan emphasized the importance of an integrated transport plan to manage the communication system effectively and called for collective efforts to address the current mismanagement on roads and highways.
The Dhaka Bypass Expressway Development Company Limited, a collaborative venture between Sichuan Road and Bridge Group (SRBG) of China, local Shamim Enterprise Limited (SEL), and UDC Construction Limited, is executing the project under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement. The 25-year agreement, effective from December 6, 2018, will continue until May 14, 2047.
The construction work of the Dhaka Bypass project is anticipated to be completed by June 2026. The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior secretary of road transport and highways division Ehsanul Haque, Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department Syed Moinul Hasan, and other concerned officials.
