Jashore: The 49th battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled goods worth approximately Taka 43,68,00,000 from the bordering areas of the district in the first seven months of the year. The border force also arrested 69 smugglers from the area during their operations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the 49th battalion of the BGB has been actively guarding a 70-kilometer stretch of the border with the Indian state of West Bengal, aiming to curb cross-border smuggling activities. The relentless efforts of the battalion have led to significant seizures and arrests, highlighting the ongoing struggle against smuggling in the region.
Lieutenant Colonel Saifullah Siddiqui, commanding officer of BGB 49th battalion, informed BSS that during their operations, they confiscated seven kilograms and 554 grams of smuggled gold, 70.5 kilograms of silver, and 37,80,000 US dollars. Additionally, a country-made pistol with seven rounds of ammunition was seized. The BGB also intercepted 7,500 bottles of Phensidyl syrup, 1,862 bottles of foreign liquor, 17,000 pieces of narcotic-related injections, 197 kilograms of cannabis, and a substantial quantity of Indian sarees, three pieces, blankets, cosmetics, and medicines during the period.
