Sylhet: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth Tk 37.24 lakh and 15 yaba tablets in separate drives along the Sylhet border, detaining one person in the process. Two separate press releases issued by the paramilitary force said this today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, acting on a tip-off, troops of Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) conducted anti-smuggling operations at Banglabazar, Lafarge, Pratappur, Bichnakandi, Panthumai, Utma, and Sangram Border Outposts (BOPs) today. They seized Indian spectacles, cumin, garlic, bidis, betel nuts, buffaloes, vegetables, cosmetics, and liquor, with the estimated value of the seized goods standing at Tk 37.24 lakh.
Meanwhile, a patrol team of Bianibazar Battalion (52 BGB), led by Habildar Mohammad Ramzan Ali of Phultala BOP, detained a man with 15 yaba tablets at Natun Bazar around 10pm on August 19. The detainee was identified as Md Bappu Mia, 26, of East Botuli village under Juri upazila of Moulvibazar. The seized yaba, valued at Tk 4,500, is being handed over to Juri Police Station along with the detainee for legal action.
The battalion commander stated that BGB's operational and intelligence activities are continuing to maintain border security and prevent smuggling and narcotics trafficking.
