BGB Seizes Smuggled Goods Worth Tk 225 Crore, Detains 616 People in October.

Dhaka: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has conducted successful raids in various border regions and other locations throughout the month of October, resulting in the seizure of smuggled goods valued at Taka 225 crore 88 lakh 78 thousand. During these operations, 616 individuals were detained, comprising 243 smugglers and 28 Indian nationals. Additionally, 1,298 Myanmar citizens were repatriated to their ancestral homes.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the contraband items seized during the raids included 986 grams of gold, 14,302 sarees, and 15,023 pieces of various garments such as three pieces, shirt pieces, chadars, blankets, and readymade garments. Other items confiscated were 27,652 meters of cloth, 2,50,722 cosmetic items, 3,149 cubic feet of wood, 2,265 kilograms of tea leaves, 4,16,711 kilograms of sugar, and 4,130 kilograms of fertilizers. The BGB also seized 86,750 cubic feet of coal, 20,440 mobile displays, 40,640 spectacles, 942 kilograms of yarn, 15,334 kilograms of betel nuts, 90,90
4 kilograms of garlic, 1,318 kilograms of onion, 22,889 kilograms of Jira, and four touchstone idols. Additionally, vehicles including 21 trucks, 24 pickup vans, five private cars and microbuses, nine trolleys, 347 boats, 53 CNG and easy bikes, 81 motorbikes, and 24 bicycles were confiscated.

Firearms and explosives were also recovered in the operations, with the BGB seizing two pistols, three guns, one rifle, one revolver, three grenades, one rocket bomb, two magazines, and 270 rounds of bullets. This was part of the ongoing drive throughout October.

The BGB’s operations also targeted illegal drugs and narcotics. Seized narcotics included 5,90,977 pieces of Yaba tablets, 3.195 kilograms of Ice (Crystal methamphetamine), 11.802 kilograms of heroin, 26,599 bottles of Phensidyl, 21,605 bottles of foreign liquor, 444 liters of local liquor, 988 cans of beer, and 1,412 kilograms of ganja. Other items seized were 1,40,196 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 74,656 narcotic tablets and injections, 4,362 bottles of I
ndian Iscaf syrup, 19.333 kilograms of cocaine, 1,859 bottles of Mkdil and cofidil, 5,54,558 different types of drugs, 2,21,346 Engro and Senegra tablets, 20 bottles of Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), and 7,59,340 other tablets.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against 243 smugglers, 345 Bangladeshi nationals, and 28 Indian nationals for illegal border crossing activities. In addition, the BGB confirmed the repatriation of 1,298 Myanmar nationals who were detained during the past month.
