Dhaka: The paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized smuggled Indian goods worth more than Tk 149 lakh and 40,000 yaba tablets in separate operations conducted along different border areas.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, four separate BGB press releases issued this evening detailed the successful operations by the Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB), which conducted intelligence-based operations in Kasba, Brahmanpara, and Burichang areas of Brahmanbaria and Cumilla. The operations resulted in the seizure of Indian Red Bull energy drinks, Seven Oil, mehendi, fuchka items, fireworks, basmati rice, padlocks, cumin, a pickup truck, and a motorcycle, with an estimated total value of Tk 70.38 lakh.
Meanwhile, Zakiganj Battalion (19 BGB) seized Indian cosmetics, sunglasses, tea leaves, betel nuts, and sarees worth Tk 78.26 lakh in separate operations in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet. The seized items included 2,809 Nivea Soft creams, 6,361 Pond's face washes, and 1,724 pairs of sunglasses, the release stated.
In Cox's Bazar, Ukhiya Battalion (64 BGB) recovered 40,000 yaba tablets from an abandoned bag in the Fari's Bill area under the Palongkhali Border Outpost on Saturday. Two suspected smugglers fled the scene after being challenged by a BGB patrol team.
In a separate operation, Marisha Battalion (27 BGB) seized 108.93 cubic feet of teak wood, valued at Tk 4.90 lakh, from the West Lailaghona area of Marisha upazila in Rangamati. The BGB stated that its anti-smuggling and anti-narcotics operations, supported by intelligence surveillance, would continue to ensure border security.
