Chapainawabganj: The paramilitary force Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized an Indian truck and smuggled goods worth Tk 3.07 crore in separate drives in Chapainawabganj. The seized goods included 708 pieces of Indian truck parts, five Benarasi sarees, 135 Indian mobile phones of different models, and an easy-bike, stated a BGB press release issued here this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, acting on intelligence information, a patrol team of Sonamasjid Border Outpost (BOP) under Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB), led by Assistant Director Sheikh Monwarul Islam, conducted a drive last night in the Muslimpur area of Shahabazpur Union under Shibganj upazila. The team spotted an unregistered Indian truck on a road in front of Shahabazpur College, about three kilometres inside Bangladesh from Border Pillar No. 184/2-S. Sensing the BGB presence, the driver abandoned the truck and fled. A search of the truck led to the recovery of 708 truck parts and five Benarasi sarees concealed inside stones. The estimated seizure value of the truck and goods was Tk 2,57,79,000.
In another drive this morning, a BGB team led by Naib Subedar Md Abdur Razzak of Kharkpur BOP stopped an easy-bike in the Alimor area of Bholahat upazila. The driver fled, leaving the vehicle behind. Upon searching, BGB personnel recovered 135 Indian mobile phones and seized the easy-bike. The estimated seizure value was Tk 49,15,000. The seized goods are being handed over to customs authorities following legal procedures.
