Brahmanbaria: Members of the para-military force, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), have seized a large consignment of smuggled Indian sarees worth over Taka 1.69 crore during a special anti-smuggling drive in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the drive was conducted by a patrol team from the Brahmanbaria Transit Camp under Sarail Battalion (25 BGB) in the Mukundapur area of Bijoynagar this noon. During the operation, smugglers attempted to flee with their pickup truck after sensing the presence of the BGB team.
The patrol team, however, chased the vehicle, forcing the smugglers to abandon the vehicle and escape. The team successfully seized the pickup truck from the Laxmi Bazar area. A total of 1,161 pieces of high-quality Indian sarees were recovered from the vehicle.
The estimated market value of the seized goods is Taka 1,69,32,000. The seized sarees are currently in the process of being handed over to the Akhaura Customs Office for further legal action.
Speaking on the matter, Sarail Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Jabbar Ahmed said that BGB remains committed to ensuring border security and preventing smuggling. Surveillance and operational activities have been strengthened across the border areas, expressing confidence that such drives will continue in the future.
