Rangamati: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 74 litres of illegally stockpiled petrol during a drive in the remote Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a BGB press release stated that authorities, acting on confidential intelligence, discovered a group of dishonest traders hoarding petrol illegally near the MMC Brick Field area in Baghaichhari with the intention of making excessive profit.
Based on this information, a special operation was conducted under the directive of the commander of Marishya Battalion (27 BGB). The operation was led by Havildar Md. Asaduzzaman, commander of the Riverghat Post.
Sensing the presence of BGB personnel, the suspected individuals fled the scene, leaving behind three plastic jerrycans. Upon searching, BGB seized a total of 74 litres of petrol from the containers.
The estimated seizure value of the confiscated fuel is Taka 9,250. In this regard, Lieutenant Colonel Zahidul Islam Zahid, Zone Commander of Marishya Zone (27 BGB), stated that regular operations are being carried out in the area to prevent smuggling.
He added that surveillance has been intensified and patrols increased due to the evolving tactics of smugglers. He expressed hope that such drives will continue in the future to curb illegal activities in the areas.
