BGB Observes 54th Martyrdom Anniversary of Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad

Jashore: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today observed the 54th martyrdom anniversary of the then EPR Lance Naik Shaheed Bir Shrestha Noor Mohammad Sheikh, recalling with due dignity his contribution during the Liberation War of 1971. Major Noor Uddin Ahmad, Deputy Commander of BGB’s Jashore Battalion (49 BGB), laid a wreath at his grave in Kashipur, Sharsha Upazila in Jashore district. A team of BGB provided a ‘Guard of Honor’, followed by the recitation of Fateha and special prayers for his soul.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the observance was attended by BGB officers, soldiers, Noor Mohammad’s family, local representatives, dignitaries, and journalists. Noor Mohammad Sheikh was born on February 26, 1936, in Maheshkhola, Narail district. He joined the East Pakistan Rifles on February 26, 1959, and actively participated in the Liberation War under Sector No. 8, Jashore, in 1971.



Noor Mohammad Sheikh was martyred on September 5, 1971, while resisting the Pakistani forces in Goalhati village. While patrolling the Chutipur base, he and his companions were attacked by the Pak army. Despite being seriously injured, he continued to fire at the enemy, allowing his companions to reach safety before he succumbed to his injuries. He was buried in Kashipur village, Jashore.



The Bangladesh government awarded him the highest honor of ‘Bir Shrestha’ for his bravery, courage, and patriotism.
