Dhaka: The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has imposed the highest level of security alert along the Chapainawabganj border following the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a potential independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency. The measures aim to prevent suspects involved in the attack from fleeing to India, with BGB intensifying surveillance and search operations across the border starting from midnight on December 12.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, commander of the BGB-53 Battalion in Chapainawabganj, stated that stringent security measures were enforced immediately after the incident. In addition to regular patrols, 19 extra patrol teams have been deployed, and two additional check posts have been set up to enhance security.
Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, commander of the BGB-59 Battalion, reported that 20 additional patrol teams are operating alongside routine patrols. Check posts have been established at key points, including three road intersections under each Border Outpost (BOP). Search operations are ongoing on motorcycles and other vehicles to ensure thorough monitoring and control over the border area.
