Satkhira: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has established its third floating border outpost (BOP) in the Sundarbans to address the challenges of human trafficking, smuggling, robbery, and trespassing in this remote area. The new BOP was inaugurated at the confluence of the Roymongol River and Boyesing Canal under Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district by Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, with the presence of BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui and other senior officials.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BOP serves as a self-contained operational platform to enhance patrol and surveillance in the border areas through waterways managed by the Riverine Border Guard Company (RBG) of BGB. Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury highlighted the challenges of maintaining security in the vast wetland and riverine border areas, noting that the BOP will enable BGB to respond effectively to prevent smuggling, human trafficking, forest resource looting, and other border crimes.

BGB Director General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui pointed out that a large syndicate has been involved in smuggling activities in the Boyesing Canal for an extended period. The establishment of the third floating BOP aims to deter such illegal activities. The new BOP was constructed at the dockyard in Narayanganj, following the first and second floating BOPs set up at Kachhikata in 2013 and the confluence of the Roymongol River and Atharobeki Canal in 2017, respectively.
