Chuadanga: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has destroyed narcotics worth over Taka 3.18 crore in Chuadanga as part of its ongoing anti-drug operations, officials said on Wednesday. The destruction took place at 11:00 am during the ‘Drugs Destruction Program-2026’ held at the headquarters of Chuadanga BGB-6 Battalion. The event was attended by Jashore Region Commander Brigadier General Mahmudul Hasan as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the program began with a welcome address by Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nazmul Hasan, commander of Chuadanga Battalion (6 BGB), followed by remarks from Kushtia Sector Commander Colonel Mohammad Iftekhar Hossain. In his speech, the chief guest reiterated BGB’s commitment to a ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy against drugs, saying that the force remains actively engaged in preventing drug smuggling along the border. He also emphasized that drug abuse is a complex social problem requiring coordinated efforts from law enforcement agencies and public participation.
Officials reported that narcotics and smuggled goods seized between August 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025, were also included in the destruction process. During this period, BGB operations in Chuadanga and Meherpur districts led to the seizure of 49 suspects and drugs valued at approximately Tk 34.20 crore. The confiscated items included 3,983 bottles of foreign liquor, 10,617 bottles of Indian Phensidyl, 29 bottles of beer, 238.79 kg of cannabis, 1.857 kg of heroin, 1.89 kg of cocaine, 25,485 tablets of various narcotics (including Viagra, Senegra, and Tapentadol), and 19 vials of injectable narcotics.
The estimated value of the drugs destroyed in Wednesday’s program was about Taka 3.18 crore. Local administration officials, including the Deputy Commissioner of Chuadanga, Chief Judicial Magistrates of Chuadanga and Meherpur, Additional Superintendent of Police, and representatives from print and electronic media, were present at the event. BGB officials said regular operations against drug trafficking will continue as part of efforts to strengthen border security and raise public awareness against narcotics.
