Dhaka: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed in the Dhaka, Faridpur, Gopalganj, and Madaripur districts to strengthen security measures and maintain law and order. The move comes as a precautionary measure ahead of the International Crimes Tribunal-1's anticipated verdict announcement in a case of crimes against humanity involving ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Kamal.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the paramilitary force confirmed the deployment through a statement from its Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam. The BGB personnel have commenced patrolling in the designated districts to maintain peace and security. The Home Ministry's decision to deploy the BGB aims to ensure public safety during this potentially sensitive period.
Previously, on November 12, a total of 12 platoons were strategically positioned across the Dhaka metropolitan area. Additionally, two platoons were stationed in the Narayanganj and Gazipur City Corporation areas. This deployment is part of heightened security measures around key government offices, court premises, and major intersections in the capital.
Law enforcement officials have intensified patrols and increased surveillance efforts to prevent any incidents. Senior officials from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and various district administrations held coordination meetings to assess the security situation and allocate forces as needed.
Authorities have called on citizens to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement, assuring that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure public safety and normalcy in everyday life.
