BGB-BSF DG-level border conference begins in Dhaka

A five-day director general (DG)-level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) began in Dhaka Sunday.

The meeting discussed security-related issues like border killing; drugs, arms, ammunition, women, and children trafficking; gold smuggling, illegal trespassing, and development work within 150 yards of the international border.

Protection of riverbanks, exchange of information on armed extremist or terrorist groups; joint initiatives to implement the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP); ways to increase trust between BGB and BSF were also discussed.

The two sides also talked about ways to prevent the illegal entry of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals into Bangladesh through India.

BGB DG Major General Shakil Ahmed is leading the 20-member Bangladesh delegation; his Indian counterpart Shri Pankaj Kumar Singh is heading a nine-member delegation.

The conference will end with the signing of a Joint Record of Discussions (JRD) on July 21.

On the occasion of the conference, the Indian delegation will visit the Padma Bridge and Cox’s Bazar as part of strengthening bilateral relations and increasing goodwill.
