Dhaka: Police have arrested Abul Kashem Pallab, former chairman of Beanibazar Upazila Parishad and joint general secretary of the upazila Awami League, in connection with multiple cases.
According to United News of Bangladesh, he was apprehended from the Vatara area of the capital around 11:30pm on Saturday. Abu Zafar Md Mahfuzul Karim, officer-in-charge of Beanibazar Police Station, confirmed that Pallab faces at least 20 cases filed with different police stations on various charges, including murder and involvement in terrorist activities.
Police and local sources allege that Pallab remained active in Awami League programmes in Beanibazar even after August 5, 2024. Despite a ban on Awami League activities, he has been accused of organising public rallies and processions, and continuing organisational activities through secret meetings in defiance of court directives, sources added.
