Mugda: Police have arrested a leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) for his suspected link to a July Uprising murder case from the capital's Mugda area. The detainee has been identified as Al-Amin Majumdar (29), Vice President of Government Bangla College unit of the BCL, according to a police press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrest was carried out by Mugda Police Station during a raid in the Bashar Tower area under Mugda Police Station around 11:50 pm on Saturday. Police sources reveal that the suspect is accused of involvement in the killing of one Mizanur Rahman during the turmoil in mid-2024.
Investigators allege that he actively participated in political programmes and processions at the time. He was reportedly present with other leaders and activists, allegedly armed, during an attack on student protesters near Sathi Digital Studio in Mugda area. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather more evidence regarding the incident.
