Ashuganj:Dhaka Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) Chairman Md Babul Miah has announced that the government is taking steps to resume operations at all fertilizer factories across the country with the aim of saving approximately Tk 22,000 crore in urea fertilizer import costs.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BCIC chairman highlighted the potential for the country's factories to meet domestic demand for urea and even export the surplus, provided they receive an adequate gas supply. Currently, the country imports between 26 to 27 lakh metric tonnes of urea fertilizer.

During a visit to the Ashuganj Fertilizer and Chemical Company Ltd (AFCCL), Miah addressed the gas crisis that has kept the Ashuganj factory closed since March 1, 2025. He expressed optimism that production could restart this year if the gas supply issues are resolved.

Miah emphasized the importance of resolving the gas crisis to make the factories operational again, which would eliminate the need for fertilizer imports. The inspection was attended by AFCCL Managing Director Sheikh Md Ali Asraf, Deputy General Manager (Administration) Tajul Islam Bhuiyan, and other factory officials.
