Bangladesh: The Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCCI) has submitted six proposals to the commerce ministry aimed at strengthening trade and investment relations with China, a BCCCI statement revealed today. The proposals come as part of an effort to address existing challenges and explore new opportunities for economic collaboration between the two countries.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the proposals were presented by a BCCCI delegation led by its president, Mohammad Khorshed Alam, during a meeting with the commerce secretary, Md Ataur Rahman Khan, at his office. A significant concern raised was the misuse of bonded warehouse facilities, where unauthorized sales of bonded goods in the domestic market have led to unfair competition and discouraged potential foreign investment, particularly from China. The BCCCI urged stronger monitoring and enforcement to prevent these practices and ensure a fair environment for compliant businesses and genuine investors.
The other proposals put forth by the BCCCI included the establishment of at least 20 permanent display centers for Bangladeshi products in China, increased exports to the Chinese market, enhanced participation in major Chinese trade fairs, facilitation of a branch of a Chinese bank in Bangladesh, and expanded technical and vocational cooperation with China.
During the meeting, the delegation also shared their experiences from participating in the 10th China-South Asia Expo held in Kunming. They highlighted the opportunities available to further promote Bangladeshi products in China and attract Chinese investment to Bangladesh. The delegation included BCCCI's senior vice presidents Han Jingchao and AZM. Azizur Rahman, secretary general Jamilur Rahman, and executive director M Abu Taher.
