Dhaka: The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Governing Council of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced the list of participating franchises for the upcoming BPL T20 season. This announcement comes as part of efforts to standardize team names amidst frequent changes that have frustrated fans in previous seasons.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BCB has decided to preemptively set the names of the BPL teams to avoid confusion and maintain consistency. The 12th edition of the BPL will feature five teams, whose ownership details were disclosed by the BCB just two days prior to this announcement. The finalized team names were revealed today following the completion of the franchise registration and evaluation process.

Two of the five teams will retain their previous names: Dhaka Capitals and Rangpur Riders, managed by Remark Harlen and Bashundhara Kings, respectively. Chattogram’s team will now be called Chattogram Royals under the new ownership of Triangle Services Limited. The Rajshahi team, owned by Nabil Group, will be named Rajshahi Warriors, while Sylhet Titans will be under the ownership of ‘Cricket with Sami’.

Despite assigning ownership to these five franchises, the BCB has stipulated that participation in the players’ draft is contingent upon each franchise providing a bank guarantee of Tk 10 crore within five working days. The players’ draft is scheduled for November 17, with the 12th BPL season set to commence on December 19, culminating in the final on January 16.
