Dhaka: Wicket-keeper batter Mahidul Islam Ankon received his first call-up for the One Day International (ODI) format as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the upcoming three-match series against West Indies.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, there are two changes to the squad from the one that played against Afghanistan recently. Opener Naim Sheikh and fast bowler Nahid Rana have been left out following their performances in the third ODI against Afghanistan, where they did not make significant contributions.

Apart from Ankon’s inclusion, experienced batsman Soumya Sarkar returns to the ODI team, having last played in February this year. This inclusion aims to bolster the team’s performance after a recent setback. Bangladesh recently faced a 3-0 whitewash against Afghanistan in the ODI series, marking a challenging phase in which they have lost 11 out of 12 matches in this format.

The announced squad includes: Mehidy Hassan Miraz (Captain), Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammed Saif Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Mahidul Islam Ankon, Jaker Ali Anik, Shamim Patwari, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, and Hasan Mahmud.
