Dhaka:The fifth Bay of Bengal Conversation is set to begin in Dhaka on Saturday, marking an important international conference focused on maritime security and regional geopolitics.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the three-day event, organized by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka. The conference will gather more than 200 speakers, over 300 delegates, and upwards of 1,000 participants from over 100 countries.
Participants at the event will include former and current heads of state, ministers, diplomats, military experts, academics, researchers, journalists, business and investment leaders, human rights advocates, technology specialists, and representatives from international development organizations.
CGS President Zillur Rahman announced the conference's commencement at a media exchange on Friday. He emphasized the growing importance of the Bay of Bengal in maritime security and regional geopolitics, highlighting the conference's aim to explore solutions to challenges and opportunities in the region.
This year's discussions will cover topics such as geopolitics, security, trust, climate change, spirituality, and humanity. CGS has expanded its activities to the United States and plans future expansions to Brussels and Dubai.
CGS Executive Director Parvez Karim Abbasi noted the strategic importance of the region, describing the Bay of Bengal Conversation as South Asia's largest privately organized international geopolitical conference. He stated that the event has grown in scale while addressing difficult and sensitive issues.
The media exchange also included CGS Director Subir Das, Research Assistant Tasfia Rahman, and other CGS members.
