Dhaka: Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin today called upon the business community for increased involvement in the operations of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) to support millions of underprivileged families. Bashir made the appeal as the chief guest at a business talk titled “Trade with TCB,” organized by the TCB at the Army Golf Club in the capital.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir highlighted issues within the TCB, noting that the organization had not been free from criminal influences that affected various sectors before the August 5 revolution. He shared findings from his visits across the country, pointing out irregularities in the selection process of beneficiaries. During these visits, he discovered TCB cards in the possession of individuals such as a jute mill owner and a five-story building owner.

Bashir expressed his commitment to implementing changes in the TCB’s operations, aiming to bring the organization to a rational level during his tenure. He emphasized the necessity for proper utilization of government funds, which range from Taka 12,000 crore to Taka 14,000 crore, intended for purchasing goods for one crore families. Bashir advocated for the selection of eligible beneficiaries and more efficient use of these funds to purchase additional goods.

He further encouraged traders to participate in TCB operations, suggesting that such involvement would not only enhance trade opportunities but also restore people’s rightful positions. Bashir noted that due to collective efforts, the market system functioned effectively during the last Holy Month of Ramadan, attributing this success to the government’s work in creating a competitive and trustworthy system.

The event also featured Secretary (Routine Charge) of the Ministry of Commerce Dr. Nazneen Kawsar Chowdhury as a special guest, with TCB Chairman Brigadier General Mohammad Faisal Azad delivering the welcome speech. Key presentations were made by TCB Director (Commercial) SM Shaheen Parvez, Director (Procurement and Finance Management) Md. Abed Ali, and Additional Director Al-Amin Hawlader. Businessmen from various sectors participated in the program.
