Bagerhat: Barrister Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain has been appointed as the Bagerhat District Council Administrator. District Council Branch, Local Government Division, Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued a notification in this regard on Sunday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Zakir Hossain was born in Sayera village in Shatgumbaj Union of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila. He obtained Barrister at Law from the renowned Lincoln's Inn and has been a member of the Bagerhat District BNP since 2017. In 2015, he was listed as an advocate in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and was recognized as a Senior Advocate in 2024.
When the gazette was published reducing the four parliamentary seats of Bagerhat to three, the people of the district protested. After a legal battle, the Supreme Court directed the gazette to be published within 24 hours by reinstating the four seats of Bagerhat. Barrister Zakir Hossain, as a senior lawyer of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, resolved the matter.
He also successfully handled a money laundering case filed against BNP Chairman and current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for his appointment as administrator, Hossain said he will work relentlessly to achieve development progress together with the people of Bagerhat.
