Barapukuria: The 125MW generation capacity unit-1 of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant has resumed its operation after a 14-hour shutdown caused by a national grid glitch, an official confirmed today. "The unit resumed generation at 12 noon after necessary maintenance and started power supply to the national grid," stated Abu Bakkar Siddiqui, the chief engineer of the plant.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the unit is currently producing 70MW of power, which is below its maximum capacity of 125MW. Siddiqui mentioned, "Till now, the unit-3 is yet to be brought into operation. Some equipment got damaged due to the grid problem. But efforts were underway to bring the unit in operation."
The plant source indicated that the 275MW generation capacity unit-3 ceased operation on Monday morning. Prior to the shutdown, it had been contributing 180-200MW of electricity to the national grid. Meanwhile, unit-1, with a 125MW capacity, was producing 50-60MW of power for the national grid.
Additionally, production in unit-2, which also has a 125MW capacity, has remained suspended since November 2020 due to mechanical faults.
