Naogaon: The Department of Environment (DoE) today conducted simultaneous mobile court drives across the country targeting banned polythene. In an effort to curb the production, sale, supply, and marketing of these environmentally harmful materials, the DoE carried out operations in multiple districts.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, two mobile courts were operational in Naogaon and Nilphamari districts. These initiatives led to the realization of a total fine of BDT 2,800 and the seizure of 16 kilograms of banned polythene in three separate cases. In addition to these efforts, eco-friendly jute bag sales outlets in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka were inspected to promote the use of jute bags over polythene. Awareness leaflets were also distributed at various markets and supermarkets to educate the public.
Further actions in Kakrail, Dhaka saw a mobile court imposing fines totaling BDT 17,000 in five cases against vehicles emitting excessive black smoke. Meanwhile, four mobile courts operating in Jamalpur, Manikganj, Thakurgaon, and Pirojpur districts collectively imposed fines amounting to BDT 15,800 through thirteen cases, with several drivers receiving cautions.
In another operation, a mobile court in Bosila, Dhaka issued fines of BDT 13,000 in two cases related to air pollution from construction materials. Nearby establishment owners were also cautioned to prevent further pollution.
The Department of Environment has stated that these enforcement drives will continue regularly to ensure compliance and promote environmental sustainability.
