Chattogram: Seven activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were arrested by the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) during a torchlight procession in the Boropool area under Bandar thana last night. The participants, carrying torches, sticks, and various weapons, were reportedly chanting slogans against the interim government.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bandar Police, Aftab Uddin, confirmed the incident, stating that upon receiving information, police quickly arrived at the scene, causing the participants to disperse. The BCL activists were allegedly planning to incite anarchy and violence in the area. The arrested individuals were identified as Md Ibrahim Khali Tusher, 24; Asif Mahbub, 24; Nayon Shill, 23; Md Sagar, 25; Zahidul Islam, 22; Masud Howleder, 30; and Moinuddin, 30. Authorities confiscated sticks, brickbats, and cell phones from the activists' possession, and a case has been filed with Bandar Police related to the incident.
In a separate operation, Khulshi Police under CMP arrested Mohammad Ibrahim, the president of AL's Kabirhat upazila unit of Noakhali district, in South Khulshi around 2:30 am. Ibrahim, the elder brother of former AL lawmaker Ekramul Karim Chowdhury of Noakhali-4 constituency, had been evading arrest in connection with a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Kabirhat thana. He was presented before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court, which ordered his detention in jail.
