Banglalink Unveils Mukto Pay, a New Digital Payment Platform

Dhaka:Mobile operator Banglalink has announced the launch of Mukto Pay, a digital payment platform designed to simplify financial transactions across Bangladesh. The platform aims to make everyday transactions faster and more accessible for users nationwide.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mukto Pay allows users to transfer money, pay utility bills, and recharge mobile numbers across all operators. As an introductory offer, Banglalink will waive charges on wallet-to-wallet transfers and bill payments for the next three months. The platform's name, ‘Mukto’, signifies freedom, emphasizing its goal to minimize the time, effort, and costs associated with daily financial transactions.

Users can access Mukto Pay by downloading the app from Google Play Store and iOS App Store. Registration requires a National Identity Card (NID) and a mobile number, regardless of the mobile operator. The platform supports a variety of services, including money transfers, utility bill payments, mobile recharges, and bank and card-based wallet top-ups. It also provides online payment options for Banglalink services, with bonuses for the first three Banglalink mobile recharges.

Johan Buse, Chief Executive Officer of Banglalink, stated that the company aims to expand its services beyond connectivity to include everyday financial transactions with Mukto Pay. The platform is expected to enable individuals, merchants, and businesses to engage in the digital economy, utilizing both smartphones and basic mobile phones. Buse highlighted the platform's potential to enhance financial inclusion by making digital payments more accessible to underserved communities and small merchants.

Mukto Pay also includes a dedicated merchant application, allowing businesses to register, receive payments, and monitor transactions via a single dashboard. Additionally, the platform plans to introduce Bangla QR, the national QR payment standard, to support interoperable digital payments among participating merchants.

Banglalink customers can also access the service by dialling *525# from basic mobile phones without an internet connection.
