Sharjah:Bangladesh's vulnerable batting lineup faltered once again, leading to a decisive seven-wicket defeat against Afghanistan, which eliminated them from the tri-nation ODI series final contention.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bangladesh needed to win by more than 40 runs to secure a spot in the final based on net-run-rate. However, they were bowled out for just 160 runs in 41.2 overs after choosing to bat first at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Afghanistan, led by captain Rahmat Shah's unbeaten 67, comfortably chased down the target, reaching 161-3 in 35.3 overs. This victory secured Afghanistan's place in the final against Zimbabwe on Friday. Earlier in the group phase, Afghanistan had defeated Zimbabwe by 158 runs.
Bangladesh's previous loss to Zimbabwe by 99 runs added to their woes in the series. Despite Parvez Hossain Emon's career-best 70, Bangladesh's innings struggled after a shaky start. Rashid Khan was instrumental in their downfall, taking 4-31, while Yamin Ahmedzai and Azmatullah Omarzai also contributed to the early dismissals of Bangladesh's top order.
Taskin Ahmed briefly provided hope with two early wickets, but Bangladesh's bowlers could not capitalize on these breakthroughs. Afghanistan's captain Rahmat Shah, supported by partnerships with Ibrahim Zadran and Hashmatullah Shahidi, guided his team to victory, ultimately sealing Bangladesh's exit from the tournament.
