Jakarta:Nepal Election Commissioner Dr. Rajib Subba has praised Bangladesh's innovative IT-supported postal voting system, suggesting it as a promising model for future elections in Nepal.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Subba's remarks came after a two-day experience-sharing program with the Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) on the system. He noted that Bangladesh's approach to out-of-country voting had greatly inspired Nepal and seemed acceptable and credible to the government.

The postal voting system is the first of its kind successfully implemented by an election commission in the Global South. Representatives from various countries, including those in South Asia, have been visiting Bangladesh to learn from its election management experiences.

Dr. Subba expressed interest in ongoing discussions and future cooperation, stating that Nepal is currently at the research stage regarding this issue. Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah mentioned Nepal's interest in postal voting due to its large number of expatriates, noting that Bangladesh had introduced expatriate voting during the 13th National Parliament election.

The two-day program also covered operational, technical, and other aspects of Bangladesh's postal voting system, with hopes that the Nepalese delegation found it satisfactory. Senior EC officials and a six-member Nepalese delegation, including Election Commissioners Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and Dr. Rajib Subba, participated in the meeting.
