Rajshahi: The Finance and Planning Adviser to the Prime Minister, Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, announced that the current government's primary objective is to foster equitable regional development, particularly through the creation of an 'Agriculture Hub' in North Bengal. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to transform Bangladesh into a $1 trillion economy by 2034.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a special refinancing fund of Taka 3,000 crore has been dedicated to the development of agriculture and agro-products in the northern region of Bangladesh. Speaking at the Rajshahi Regional Conference on Agro Processing, Titumir highlighted the government's commitment to creating an investment-friendly environment for entrepreneurs, rather than engaging in business activities themselves.

The government is actively working towards economic prosperity by implementing the 'One Village One Product' philosophy, with financial assistance and refinancing schemes totaling about Taka 60,000 crore. The interest rates for these schemes have been maintained between 5 and 9 percent, providing a conducive environment for investment amid current inflationary pressures.

Titumir further elaborated on the measures taken to enhance investment infrastructure, including the digitization of processes from licensing to factory setup, and the establishment of a 'Single Window' service to reduce bureaucratic hurdles. Infrastructure development is also underway, with plans to convert the railway line to dual gauge to improve connectivity to major ports within the next two to three years.

Additionally, efforts are being made to harness the potential of solar power in the northern region, particularly in Rajshahi, to promote energy conservation. Entrepreneurs were encouraged to explore opportunities in the agro-processing sector, such as producing starch or API from potatoes and utilizing mangoes diversely.

The conference, presided over by Divisional Commissioner Dr. ANM Bazlur Rashid, also featured discussions on investment potential in the agro-processing sector, with contributions from various industry leaders and experts. The event concluded with an interactive session where Titumir addressed questions from the media.
