Dhaka:Bangladeshi exports to the United States increased by 11.51 percent during the July-October period of the 2026-27 fiscal year, highlighting the strength and competitiveness of the country's products in a major global market.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bangladesh earned US$3.35 billion from exports to the US in the first four months of FY2026-27, compared to US$3.00 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year. This significant growth underscores the strategic importance of the US market, which accounted for nearly one-fifth of Bangladesh's total merchandise export earnings during this time.

The overall export earnings for Bangladesh during the July-October period of FY2026-27 reached US$17.09 billion, marking a 5.88 percent growth compared to the same period in FY2025-26. The US market's growth rate surpassed the overall export growth rate, reinforcing its position as Bangladesh's leading export destination.

Mohammad Hasan Arif, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the Export Promotion Bureau, noted the strong performance in the US market as a reflection of the competitiveness of Bangladeshi products globally. He emphasized the resilience of Bangladeshi exporters in maintaining demand and confidence among international buyers.

In addition to the US market, Bangladesh also made strides in expanding its export presence in emerging markets. Turkey was the fastest-growing export destination with an 82.69 percent growth, while exports to Saudi Arabia and the UAE also saw notable increases. The United Kingdom and Germany remained significant markets, alongside the strong performance in the US.

October's export figures continued to show positive growth, with exports to the US reaching US$756.64 million, a 12.10 percent increase from the previous year. This trend reflects the ongoing contribution of the US market to Bangladesh's foreign trade performance.

Mahmud Hasan Khan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, highlighted Bangladesh's favorable tariff position in the US market as a contributory factor to export growth, while ongoing discussions with the US Trade Representative aim to address additional tariffs on Bangladeshi exports.

Analysts emphasize the importance of market and product diversification, quality improvements, and compliance with international standards for sustaining Bangladesh's export growth. Expanding trade relations with emerging economies could offer additional opportunities for local exporters, supporting Bangladesh's positive export momentum.
