Dhaka: Bangladeshi adoptees are on a journey to reconnect with their birth families after being separated nearly five decades ago. The children were taken from their birth families under false pretenses, as families were misled into believing that adoption would offer their children a better future. These children were unjustly put up for adoption and raised in different cultures and environments.
According to Deutsche Welle, an NGO based in the Netherlands is actively assisting these adopted Bangladeshis in their quest to reconnect with their biological families and uncover their origins. Sander Maulmeester, one of the adoptees, was adopted as a toddler by a Dutch couple. The adoption process was fraught with deceit, prompting Maulmeester to embark on a journey back to Bangladesh in hopes of finding his biological family.
This initiative aims to bridge the gap created by the adoption process, providing adoptees with the opportunity to learn more about their heritage and establish meaningful connections with their families of origin.
