Gifu:Bangladesh women's hockey team clinched ninth place in the Asian Games after a tense 2-1 victory over Singapore in a penalty shootout during the ninth-12th place playoff at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Japan.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the match was tightly contested, ending 1-1 in regulation time before Bangladesh emerged victorious in the shootout.

Bangladesh started strong, with Irin Akter Riya scoring a field goal in the 10th minute, giving them an early lead. They maintained this advantage until halftime.

In the second half, Singapore increased their efforts, and Bangladesh faced a setback when Lima Akter received a yellow card in the 42nd minute, reducing the team to 10 players temporarily. Singapore capitalized on this, equalizing in the 44th minute with Tou Li Min converting a penalty corner.

With no further goals in regulation, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout, where Bangladesh held their nerve to claim a 2-1 victory and secure ninth place in the competition.
