Bangladesh-US Relationship Matters More Than Ever: Paul Kapur

Washington: US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapur has underscored the importance of the evolving relationship between Bangladesh and the United States, emphasizing its significance in today’s geopolitical landscape. Speaking at an event hosted by the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, Kapur stated, “Today, US-Bangladesh relationship matters more than ever,” highlighting the mutual benefits derived from cooperation in various sectors.



According to United News of Bangladesh, Assistant Secretary Kapur pointed out that collaboration between the two nations in fields such as security, trade, and governance, along with their shared values, contributes to the prosperity and security of both countries. During a two-day visit to Bangladesh in March, Kapur engaged in discussions focusing on expanding market access for American businesses, addressing illegal immigration, and enhancing regional security and counterterrorism efforts.



Additionally, Kapur emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral trade and investment, strengthening security cooperation, and advancing shared interests within the Indo-Pacific region. This strategic partnership aims to address common challenges and foster a more stable regional environment.



Meanwhile, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright, during a meeting with Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, acknowledged the energy challenges faced by Bangladesh. Wright assured that the US is committed to supporting Bangladesh during these difficult times to ensure its energy security. This meeting took place on March 31 at the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C.



Dr Rahman elaborated on the energy-related challenges stemming from supply chain disruptions and requested assistance from the US to bolster Bangladesh’s energy security. Energy Secretary Wright responded positively, pledging to consider Bangladesh’s requests and work closely with relevant US government departments to provide the necessary support.
