Madurai: The Bangladesh U-21 hockey team is set to face South Korea in a place-deciding match of the FIH Hockey Junior World Cup at the Madurai International Hockey Stadium in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 pm Bangladesh time.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, earlier this week, Bangladesh achieved a remarkable 13-0 victory over Oman in another place-deciding match of the tournament, with notable hat-tricks from Amirul Islam and Rakibul Hasan. This win marked Bangladesh's first-ever victory in the tournament and secured their final ranking between 17th and 20th among the 24 participating nations.
During the group phase, Bangladesh showcased a resilient performance despite a 5-3 defeat to Australia in their opening match, where Aminul Islam scored a hat-trick. In their second group match, they managed to secure a 3-3 draw against South Korea, demonstrating their competitive spirit. In their final group game, Bangladesh narrowly lost 3-2 to the reigning runners-up, France, after a commendable effort.
