Dhaka: The Advisory Council in a meeting today decided to form an independent investigation service for the Bangladesh Police. Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus chaired the meeting held at his office in the city's Tejgaon area, said Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the city this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Advisory Council has resolved to establish an independent investigation service for the police to ensure that inquiries are free from political or any external influences. Shafiqul Alam further conveyed that the Advisory Council has directed the formation of a separate commission to address internal complaints within the police service. He emphasized that the Ministry for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs will expedite the implementation of these decisions.
Advisers Asif Nazrul and Adilur Rahman Khan, along with the Chief Adviser's Special Assistant on Home Affairs Khoda Box Chowdhury, will be instrumental in this process. The meeting highlighted the need to strengthen local government institutions, with the Chief Adviser stressing the importance of empowering local government bodies. Measures will be taken to enable Union Parishads, Upazila Parishads, Zila Parishads, municipalities, and city corporations to raise and manage their funds transparently.
Addressing challenges in the health sector, Shafiqul Alam noted that some medical colleges are experiencing shortages of qualified teachers. Consequently, initiatives will be undertaken to engage retired teachers as consultants or in other roles to enhance the quality of education.
The meeting also touched upon the status of Bangladeshis currently residing in Nepal. Shafiqul Alam assured that they are safe and under the care of the Bangladesh Embassy. Arrangements have been made for the national football team to return home on a special flight operated by the Bangladesh Air Force.
Regarding the overall outcome of today's meeting, Shafiqul Alam stated that every decision made will contribute to strengthening Bangladesh's economy, governance, and international standing. Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder was also present at the briefing.
