Chennai: Bangladesh made a losing start in the FIH Hockey Men's Junior World Cup when they suffered a 5-3 goals defeat to Australia in their opening group match held at Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Chennai, India today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in the first quarter, Australia took the lead in the very first minute through a field goal, but Aminul Islam restored parity for Bangladesh by converting a penalty corner in the 14th minute. The second quarter saw Australia add three goals to their tally in the 18th, 22nd, and 24th minutes, maintaining their lead.
In the third quarter, Amirul Islam reduced the margin, scoring his second goal by converting another penalty corner in the 42nd minute of the match. In the last quarter, Australia widened their margin with a fifth goal through a field effort in the 48th minute. Aminul Islam completed his hat-trick by reducing the margin for Bangladesh with a goal in the 59th minute.
Bangladesh is set to play their remaining group matches against South Korea and France on November 30 and December 2, respectively.
