Sylhet:Bangladesh's head coach Phil Simmons expressed concerns over the team's inability to convert intensive training efforts into match performance. Despite rigorous preparations, similar to those before their Test win against Australia in Darwin, the team has faced challenges replicating that success on the field.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Simmons highlighted the team's consistent hard work during practice sessions. However, he acknowledged that this effort is not being reflected during matches. "One thing I can say is that the boys are working hard. They are still practising the way we did before Darwin or before the Pakistan series," Simmons stated during a press conference. "But we are not able to reflect that practice in matches."
Bangladesh has struggled since their victory in Darwin, facing a series of losses, including an innings defeat in Mackay, a draw against Afghanistan, losses in the ODI tri-nation series, and a defeat in the first Test against West Indies in Mirpur. Simmons emphasized the need for the team to translate their hard work in practice into match success, particularly addressing their batting performance.
Looking ahead to the second Test in Sylhet, Simmons noted the pitch's similarity to the one where Bangladesh previously defeated Pakistan. Despite recent injuries to key players like Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque, Simmons reported no current injury concerns within the squad. The second Test against West Indies is scheduled to begin on Thursday.
