Kamalapur:Bangladesh Bangladesh has demonstrated potential in martial arts, particularly in Wushu, with recent achievements highlighting the need for improved infrastructure and support. The country secured a bronze medal in the Wushu event at the Asian Games, showcasing its capabilities despite limited preparations.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the founder and general secretary of the Bangladesh Wushu Federation (BWF), Dildar Hasan Dilu, emphasized the need for sustained training, timely funding, and dedicated facilities to enhance performance. He noted that short training camps, funding delays, and lack of permanent training facilities are significant challenges.

Dilu highlighted that athletes often train for only one or two months before major competitions, which hinders technical development and preparation. However, he welcomed recent government initiatives, including a monthly allowance program for athletes based on performance and the allocation of a 5,000-square-foot space for training at a stadium in Kamalapur.

National Wushu athlete Jinnat Akter, who won a bronze medal at the Asian Games, called for year-round training camps and improved support. She pointed out the lack of dedicated training venues, qualified coaches, and modern equipment as ongoing challenges.

The Bangladesh Army's support, including food and accommodation during a recent training camp, was acknowledged by Akter as beneficial. She believes that integrating foreign coaching expertise into a sustained training program would significantly impact the athletes' performance.

Bangladesh's Wushu athletes have achieved regional success, including multiple medals at the South Asian Games. Recent administrative changes in the federation have also led to historic achievements, such as Shikha Khatun's bronze medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games.

Consistent investment and long-term planning are seen as crucial to turning Bangladesh's Wushu potential into sustained international success, enabling athletes to compete more effectively on the global stage.
