Dhaka: Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK) Abida Islam has emphasized the nation's rapid economic growth and its potential as a hub for foreign investment, urging Welsh businesses to explore new trade and innovation opportunities with Bangladesh. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the High Commissioner addressed the Wales-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (WBCC) Business Expo and Seminar recently, highlighting Bangladesh's potential as a significant trade and investment partner for Wales. The event was attended by notable Welsh figures, including Lord Lieutenant of West Glamorgan Louise Fleet, Minister of Finance Mark Drakeford, and Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens MP. Abida Islam, while discussing Bangladesh's economic transformation, identified several sectors ripe for collaboration, such as renewable energy, life sciences, FinTech, semiconductors, education, tourism, and agro-processing. She called for enhanced bilateral engagement and investment partnerships, urging Welsh enterprises to participate in upcoming trade missions to Bangladesh. During the event, the High Commissioner also engaged in a panel discussion and interactive Q and A session, further encouraging Welsh businesses to explore commercial cooperation. On the sidelines, she met with representatives from FinTech Wales and the Chartered Institute of Export and International Trade Wales to discuss future institutional collaboration. The successful WBCC Expo Seminar underscored the strengthening Bangladesh-Wales partnership, setting the stage for deeper economic ties, increased investment flows, and mutual prosperity between the two regions.
