Dhaka: Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan has reached out for Saudi support in advancing green initiatives and facilitating rainwater harvesting projects to ensure safe drinking water. Highlighting Bangladesh’s vulnerability to climate change, she stressed the importance of international collaboration to address these challenges effectively.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizwana Hasan’s appeal came during a courtesy visit by Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr Abdullah Zafer H. bin Abiyah at her office in the Secretariat. During the meeting, the ambassador extended an invitation to the adviser to attend the forthcoming 5th session of the Islamic Conference and expressed his optimism about strengthening bilateral cooperation in environmental conservation and climate resilience.
Ambassador Abiyah also broached the possibility of joint ventures between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, focusing on areas like green technology, renewable energy, and water resource management. These initiatives could pave the way for more sustainable development practices in both countries.
Later, Rizwana Hasan chaired a review meeting at the ministry conference room to discuss the development and activities of the Bangladesh Rubber Board. During the session, she underscored the importance of adopting eco-friendly methods for the sustainable growth of the rubber industry. She also provided guidelines to boost research, expand export opportunities, and ensure policy support for the sector.
The meeting was attended by Secretary of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry Dr Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary Md Khayrul Hasan, Joint Secretary Shahanara Yasmin Lili, and other senior officials.
