Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today congratulated the Bangladesh delegation on the country’s re-election to the Council of Administration of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The election took place in Dubai, where Bangladesh secured 97 out of 157 votes, ranking 9th among the 10 elected members.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this marks Bangladesh’s second consecutive four-year term on the Council of Administration, as stated in a press release issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing. During its previous tenure, Bangladesh’s participation was limited, attending only one physical meeting in November 2021 and following the rest of the proceedings virtually. This raised concerns that such limited engagement might jeopardize the re-election bid.

Despite these challenges, Bangladesh succeeded in its diplomatic efforts, leading to a favorable outcome. Ambassador Tareq Ahmed, Bangladesh’s envoy to the UAE, described the re-election as a ‘diplomatic success.’
