Dhaka: Youth and Sports Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul stated that Bangladesh cannot be compelled to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India under unreasonable pressure. He emphasized that the request for a change of venue was made for valid reasons and that Bangladesh should not be subjected to illogical coercion to play in India.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Asif Nazrul addressed journalists at the Bangladesh Secretariat, highlighting the precedence of changing venues in international cricket. He cited past instances where venues were altered due to India’s refusal to play in Pakistan. He further responded to queries about the possibility of Scotland replacing Bangladesh if they decide not to participate in the tournament in India.
Dr. Nazrul’s remarks underscore the importance of fair treatment in international sports events and the right of any nation to voice concerns regarding venue selections. The ongoing discussions reflect the broader considerations involved in organizing international cricket tournaments, especially concerning security and diplomatic relations.
