Dhaka: The Government of Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to multilateral cooperation and sustainable development by contributing core (regular) resources to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
According to United News of Bangladesh, Kanni Wignaraja, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, expressed appreciation for the longstanding partnership with Bangladesh, highlighting the contribution to UNDP core resources as a significant testament to this collaboration. As Bangladesh advances its development goals, including its graduation from Least Developed Country status, its ongoing support for multilateralism underscores its dedication to advancing global sustainable development.
A recent press release emphasized that the annual contribution, provided as flexible funding, is essential for addressing increasingly complex global challenges and enabling rapid responses during crises. Bangladesh continues to focus on inclusive growth, climate resilience, and effective governance, aligning closely with UNDP’s global mission.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury stated that Bangladesh is proud to reaffirm its commitment to multilateral cooperation and to support the global development architecture, including through UNDP, a longstanding development partner since Bangladesh’s independence in 1971. He emphasized that the contribution to UNDP’s core resources reflects the newly elected Government’s commitment to advancing sustainable development both domestically and globally.
By providing this flexible core funding contribution, Bangladesh is aiding in the implementation of UNDP’s Strategic Plan across more than 170 countries and territories, supporting development efforts where they are needed most. Core contributions are crucial in strengthening UNDP’s oversight and accountability functions, ensuring the effective, efficient, and transparent delivery of programmes.
