Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon announced the government's commitment to transforming Bangladesh from its current state of disrepair to a path of planned reconstruction. Swapon emphasized the government's accountability to its citizens and its efforts in laying the groundwork for future development during a press briefing at the Prime Minister's Office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister detailed that the initial 180 days of the government's five-year tenure focused on clearing away the remnants of past governance and societal issues. This period served as a preparation phase for implementing planned programs aimed at national reconstruction.
Swapon reflected on the public's response to key events in the country's recent history, particularly highlighting the widespread mourning following the death of Begum Khaleda Zia on December 31, 2025. He described the public's reaction as a symbolic message of unity and trust in the government's direction.
He further asserted that the government had restored the people's voting rights, which had been long denied, and was acting on the mandate received through the election. Swapon reiterated the government's dedication to transparency and its principal objective of identifying and addressing institutional damages to enable future progress.
The minister underscored the importance of rebuilding societal institutions that had deteriorated under previous administrations. He also mentioned the government's commitment to regularly updating the public on the progress of implementing its election manifesto.
The briefing was moderated by Prime Minister's Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibly, and Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon delivered the welcome address. The event was attended by the Prime Minister's advisers, state ministers, special assistants, and members of the press wing.
