Dhaka:Deputy Speaker of Bangladesh Parliament, Barrister Kayser Kamal, announced that the Parliamentary Caucus will work collaboratively with all stakeholders to tackle the risks associated with climate change and the challenges faced by displaced people.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Kamal made these remarks as the chief guest at the "Introducing the Parliamentary Caucus on Climate Change and Displacement" session during the "Sonar Manush Sammilan 2026" event at Hotel InterContinental. This event marked the 30th anniversary of the Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU).

Kamal emphasized that the current parliament is committed to the welfare of the people and has recognized the necessity for a dedicated caucus to address climate change challenges. The Parliamentary Caucus on Climate Change and Displacement was formed through a collaborative effort, aiming to foster collective action and enable the parliament to play an effective role in alleviating public suffering.

The caucus, which includes elected representatives from areas severely affected by climate change along with Members of Parliament from various political parties, is expected to support those working on displacement issues at the grassroots level. MPs within this caucus will play pivotal roles in their constituencies by identifying climate-related risks, raising public awareness, and offering policy recommendations in coordination with relevant government and non-government organizations.

Deputy Speaker Kamal highlighted that while Bangladesh contributes minimally to global climate change, it suffers disproportionately from its impacts. He urged all concerned parties to work together responsibly to address the issues faced by displaced people at the grassroots.

The caucus, described as an all-party initiative, is chaired by Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, MP, who expressed a commitment to resolving the people's problems and protecting them from disasters, both within and outside Parliament.

The event, moderated by Dr. Tasneem Siddiqui, Executive Director of RMMRU, was attended by members of the parliamentary caucus, international experts, researchers, embassy representatives, NGOs, civil society members, and media representatives.
