New delhi: Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi celebrated the 54th Armed Forces Day on November 24, underscoring the historic bonds of friendship, shared sacrifices, and enduring defence ties between Bangladesh and India. The event was marked by the presence of distinguished guests, including Lt. General Manish Luthra, Director General (Military Operations) of the Indian Army, who attended as the Chief Guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Lt. General Luthra described the relationship between Bangladesh and India as ‘remarkable and exemplary,’ emphasizing how the peoples of the two nations have consistently supported each other in times of need. This sentiment was echoed by High Commissioner to India Md Riaz Hamidullah, who paid tribute to the heroes of the Liberation War and acknowledged the sacrifices made by many in India during Bangladesh’s moments of greatest distress. He highlighted the multi-layered friendship shaped by shared history, culture, and geography, rooted in mutual trust and respect.
Defence Adviser Brigadier General Md Hafizur Rahman, while welcoming the attendees, reflected on the significant roles of the Bangladesh Armed Forces in nation-building and their contributions to global peace and security through UN peacekeeping missions. The celebration was attended by 1971 War veterans, senior officials of the Government of India, high-ranking military officers, diplomats, civil society members, and representatives of the media.
