Dhaka:The Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, in collaboration with HSBC and the Carbon Trust, has commenced the 'National Energy Study for Bangladesh.' This initiative aims to bolster the country's long-term energy security and facilitate its transition towards a more sustainable and resilient energy system.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the study will assess the current energy landscape in Bangladesh, project future electricity needs, and evaluate the role of technologies such as renewable energy and energy storage in supporting economic growth and energy security. It will also explore cost-efficient clean energy solutions for the government and identify potential pathways to attract foreign direct investment.
A meeting to initiate the study was chaired by K M Ali Reza, Additional Secretary of the Renewable Energy Wing of the Power Division, with representatives from relevant government ministries, HSBC, and the Carbon Trust in attendance. The study will involve analysis, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building to inform future energy planning and provide a roadmap for Bangladesh's transition to a resilient power sector.
HSBC is committed to assisting the study by collaborating with governments and public-sector institutions to explore climate and energy transition solutions. The bank has partnered with the Carbon Trust to support the study and provide necessary training for its execution.
K M Ali Reza emphasized the importance of the study, stating it will explore potential options for Bangladesh's power generation energy mix. Mahbub ur Rahman, CEO of HSBC Bangladesh, highlighted the timeliness of the initiative amid global energy market uncertainties and expressed the bank's dedication to supporting Bangladesh's sustainable energy strategy. Andrew Lever from the Carbon Trust expressed enthusiasm for contributing global expertise to help Bangladesh transition to a low-carbon, resilient energy future.
